Professional cleaning process

What We Do

Our Services

Professional monument care with respect, precision, and lasting results. Every stone is treated with the dignity it deserves.

Headstone Cleaning

Gentle, thorough cleaning of individual headstones using D/2 Biological Solution. Removes decades of biological growth, pollution staining, and discoloration without harming the stone.

Biological Growth Removal

Specialized treatment for lichen, moss, algae, and mildew that accumulates on stone surfaces over time. Our process kills growth at the root for long-lasting results.

Monument Restoration

Complete cleaning and restoration of large monuments, obelisks, and memorial structures. We restore the original beauty while preserving the integrity of the stone.

Leveling & Resetting

Headstones that have shifted, tilted, or sunk over time can be carefully leveled and reset to their proper position with respect and precision.

Preventive Maintenance

Regular maintenance plans to keep monuments clean and protected year-round. Prevent biological growth from returning and keep inscriptions legible.

Cemetery Plot Care

Complete plot maintenance including cleaning of all markers, trimming around bases, and ensuring the surrounding area is neat and respectful.

Our Approach

Cleaning Basics for Heritage Monuments

When dealing with older or "heritage" stones — often marble, limestone, or sandstone — the golden rule is "Do No Harm." Old stones are porous and can be easily damaged by modern chemicals.

The Best Cleaner

We use D/2 Biological Solution — the industry standard used by the National Park Service. It is pH-neutral and kills mold, algae, and lichens without damaging the stone.

Water is Key

We always saturate the stone with clean water before and during the cleaning process. This prevents the cleaning solution from soaking too deeply into the stone's pores.

Soft Tools Only

We use only soft-bristled nylon or natural fiber brushes. Never wire brushes, metal scrapers, or power washers — these permanently scar the masonry.

What to Avoid

These common methods cause irreversible damage

Bleach & Acid

Never use household bleach, vinegar, or harsh acids. These cause "salting" — crystals grow inside the stone and cause it to crumble (spalling).

Shaving Cream

A common "hack" for reading old inscriptions. Do not do this. The oils and chemicals cause permanent staining and irreversible damage to the stone surface.

Sandblasting

This removes the protective "skin" of the stone and dramatically accelerates its decay. Once sandblasted, the damage cannot be undone.

Heritage uses only National Park Service-approved methods
